power of meditationI spent the weekend with a group of Enneagram enthusiasts. The Enneagram is a beautiful way to get to know yourself and awaken the deeper part of your soul. It is a model of studying human personality as it relates to self-understanding and self-development through nine interconnected personality types. A part of this weekend included meditation which can be a great liberator! For more information on the Enneagram, please click here.

The main teacher was Helen Palmer and she was joined by Terry Saracino. They taught in what is called the narrative tradition. What that means is that the participants of the workshop are asked to go on interactive panels where we are interviewed. Through this inquiry our struggles, dilemmas and strengths related to our type are brought into more self-awareness.

In the last few blogs we have been exploring paradigms (the habitual behavior patterns held in our subconscious mind). When I volunteered to go on one of these panels investigating our instinctual patterns, my “paradigm detective” got a few more clues. Throughout the many panels I was reminded how well these habitual behavior patterns work to protect us and keep us safe. They do it so well we are completely unconscious of them.

I saw:

  • How patterns of behavior like my going to workshops endlessly, was a function of trying to protect myself.
  • How emotions like anxiety and worry can keep anger hidden.
  • How any emotional pain is covered up by patterns. I was reminded how these patterns are running the show until we become conscious of them.
  • How we operate on automatic most of the time.
  • How our specific lens (our defense or preoccupation) through which we view the world skews how and what we “see”.
  • How these limiting patterns are not serving us in the present.
  • How we are so conditioned to look outside instead of inside.

The weekend workshop really demonstrated another way to deal with these paradigms or conditioned patterns. By going inside and using our inner observer, witnessing our breath as we let our attention drop into our belly and notice where the breath and the attention join. Relaxing the resistance and letting the life force flow. Letting go of ordinary consciousness and relaxing into that part of brain where there are no fixed habits.

We explored:

  • Learning to relax into loving kindness or agape.
  • Feeling a higher state of consciousness.
  • A place where you have been when you fell in love.
  • Passion of the heart.
  • A state of wellbeing, happy and peaceful.
  • A place where the world looks different, where you are authentic and receptive.  Where you surrender, letting go, letting a greater knowing that is imbued in the life force that you are well inside of yourself even in the midst of great difficulty.

So this process of relaxing inside and staying present in breath right now, stops the movement of the past pattern coming into the future. It stops the misinformation that what we are facing now is some kind of re-creation of what we faced back then when the pattern formed. We now have choice and can see it as unreal, an illusion.

Having meditated for many years now, I can attest that meditation is certainly a great way to go inside. After this weekend, it is a great reminder that when we are on automatic, we can pause and breathe and stop those limiting paradigms from running the show.

Here’s to your success!

rewiring the brainWe are continuing to examine the limiting paradigms that are probably popping up as you are working on your goals, intentions or aspirations you have set for this year. Remember those habitual behavioral patterns held in the subconscious mind. Generally they are other people’s habits passed on to us from one generation to another. Our paradigms control our perception, time, effectiveness, productivity, our ability to earn money, etc.; they can even control our logic. They are so deeply entrenched in our subconscious and are what guides our behavior and how we make choices.

What we don’t realize is that our subconscious mind runs the habit programming 95% of the time. It is running the show. So we are creating our life mostly from subconscious programming. If we are not cultivating new paradigms, the old ones run automatically (even without our awareness). So our job as a “paradigm detective” is not over.

So what can we do to counter this?

Generally we use our conscious mind about 5% of the time. So if we strengthened the use of our intellectual or creative faculties, we would use more of our conscious mind. These faculties are reason, the will, perception, memory, intuition and imagination. It is our job to continuously plant new seeds of creation and pull the weed seeds with our intellectual faculties in the gardens of our mind. Now this is easier said than done.

We need to re-write or re-wire the old programs (limiting paradigms) and then we have to work at it with repetition. We need to create a new powerful well-defined goal or intention. Then choose powerful new affirmations that will support the goal or intention. Create written, auditory, kinesthetic, and visual imprinting material that will be repeated for a minimum of 30 days at least 3-5 minutes daily. Develop an emotional trigger that you can use to link with your new vision. In NLP we call this anchoring in a good feeling. The emotional linking will trigger the subconscious and rewire the old patterns.

Since we are dealing with habits that are very ingrained, repetition is the name of the game. So be mindful, be present, and repeat these steps over and over to develop a new habit. Help these new habits or paradigms grow through constant application of attention and life energy.

Here’s to your success!

limiting paradigms

Once again, how is going with your goals, intentions or aspirations you have set for 2013? Remember goals are set to help you grow and develop. Are your paradigms supporting or limiting your progress?

I mentioned in the last blog post that my old paradigms (my habitual behavior patterns held in my subconscious mind) had taken over with one of my goals. I also mentioned that paradigms are very sneaky. They are so deeply entrenched in our subconscious and are what guides our behavior and how we make choices. They are like internal maps that provide us with “our reality” and create how we see our world. They also have survival and keeping us safe as their modus operandi.

Stephen R. Covey, the author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” wrote, “We see the world, not as it is, but as we are – or, as we are conditioned to see it.” We believe our present reality is the way “things should be” and is the real “truth.”

Uncovering limiting paradigms is tricky. You must become a “paradigm detective”. You must ask the right questions and shake up your thinking by using your six creative faculties;

  • Your imagination,
  • Perception,
  • Intuition,
  • Will,
  • Reasoning,
  • Memory.

There are traps that we use to keep the paradigms alive. Again this is below our awareness, unless we put on our detective hat. There are four ways we can keep our paradigms running. We can analyze, justify, catastrophize or rebel.

So how do we apply this?

1. First you must be working on a goal that you really want. You must have your goal written on a goal card along with your positive affirmations.

2. Then you want to be getting emotionally involved with your goal because that involves change. Change shakes up our paradigms which want to keep us in a safe, familiar habit pattern. This in turn causes anxiety as we fear the unknown.

3. Now we want to become mindful and start watching our thoughts when we are going after what we want. The limiting paradigms will surface and now we have to investigate how we unconsciously keep them operating.

For myself, I have a goal of writing another book. A thought that starts to surface is; you have already written seven books, you don’t need another one. This is an example of ‘justification’.  Or I could analyze and make the paradigm appear logical or catastrophize and make things bigger or worse than they really are or rebel against writing another book. My preferred trap to keep my paradigms running, is justification. When I do this, my instinct of survival and being kept safe is activated. This is also known as a comfort zone.

This exercise is part of a process to deconstruct our paradigms and move into the unknown (our new goal) with the faith that we are going to obtain our goal even before it is a physical reality. In my next blog I will continue this process as uncovering your limiting paradigms will enhance your ability to live an exceptional life and obtain your most worthy goals.

Here’s to your success!

focus on goalsSo here we are in January and our goals, intentions and aspirations for the year are all in place. So how is it going? Is your goal setting working?

In my last blog post I mentioned that one of my goals I was working on was focus. To that end I came up with a daily schedule to enable me to be more focused. It had flexibility in certain time frames to account for unplanned phone calls, etc.

When I met with my coach, she asked “how is it going”? “Well, not as planned”, I replied. I can’t seem to follow it exactly. The intention is there but there are always interruptions. So she wanted to know what was my relationship with my schedule. What did the schedule mean to me? What actions was I taking that were not aligned with my goal of finishing my book and developing a webinar series. These goals were ultimately why I wanted to focus in the first place.

I started to think about my goals again with new eyes. My goals of my new book and the webinar series fit the criteria of “C” goals. Go back to the blog post  3 Different Types of Life Goals to remind yourself of the three different types of goals.  These goals came from my imagination, they were inspiring, I had never done this version before and I really wanted them to materialize.

So what was missing? What did I learn from Bob Proctor and Sandy Gallagher? Ah Ha! I did not have them written on a goal card so I could see them daily. I did not have positive affirmations to go along with these goals. I was not getting emotionally involved with them and attracting the right vibration. I was letting my old paradigms (my habitual behavior patterns held in my subconscious mind) take over. Boy, they are sneaky.

There is focus and then there is focus. I realized I was focusing on the “how” instead of letting the “how” show up. My old paradigms had me focus on the schedule. My focus needed to be more on the positive affirmations, reading my goal card daily and getting emotionally involved with seeing my goals already in place. See more ideas in Part 2 – The Art of Manifesting Your Goals – Concrete Steps.

I am always amazed with our paradigms. Until we are conscious of them, it is so easy to be heading down the wrong path, in my case with focus, and not even realizing it.

So how is your goal setting coming?

Here’s to your success!

happy-new-year-2013Well here we are in 2013. We are now in the beginning of another 5,125-year-long cycle Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. We are also entering the Chinese Year of the Snake. Native Americans associate the shedding of a snake’s skin with rebirth.  So this is about new beginnings, a new rebirth.

It’s the time of the year where we re-evaluate where we have been and where we want to go. I recently got together with a friend, Karen Dorland and we spent a few days going what we wanted in our lives for 2013. It was a fun process and we became very clear on our direction for the year.

Goal setting has two energies to it. The tangible and the intangible. So in terms of the tangible, what do you want to manifest this year?

What kind of work do you want to do? What kind of work habits do you want to develop?  How much money do you want to associate yourself with? Do you want a healthy body? Do you want to exercise? What kind of food do you want to eat? What kind of relationships do you want in your life? Do you want to spend more time with family? Who do you want to associate with? Where do you want to live? Do you want to own and if you own, do you want to renovate? Do you want to travel this year?  Do you want a new car? We are all in different places so our desires will all be unique.

But what about the intangible?  Our thinking is extremely important in deciding what we want.

Are you holding on to something you would like to let go of?  What vibration do you want to be in? Are you clear on your dreams? Are you in touch with spirit? Are you aware of the paradigms (fixed habits)  that are holding you back from what you really want?  If you could eliminate your biggest challenge, what would it be? Are you aware of your beliefs? Do you feel you are able to create your own reality? What do you love? Or feel passionate about? Do you feel connected to your potential?  What do you value?  What brings you happiness? Do you feel grateful? Are you open to learning something new?

Karen and I worked on both the tangible and intangible goals and intentions. My concentration this year is to put more focus into my life. As a curious type, I am always into learning new things but that causes me to get scattered.  So one of my goals is to work on discipline and focus this year.

Can anyone else relate? Do you get off track with emails, phone calls, or doing things around the house instead of working (if you are working from home)?

I have come up with a daily plan that will bring more focus and have implemented it as one of my new goals for the year. I am working on other goals as well but will keep those for another blog post.

Here’s to your success!

A coach is someone who can take you where you can’t or won’t go by yourself. Coaching is a process that enables you to achieve your full potential. Through a series of questioning techniques and discussions you are given the opportunity to go within and discover answers and new ways of being, based on your values, preferences and unique perspective.

I would like to introduce you to a powerful coaching system that transforms you through powerful personal shifts. It actually addresses the root cause of behaviors.

The program is called Thinking Into Results and I facilitate this amazing program and coach you to success.

Earl Nightingale said, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal”.

What stands in the way of your success?

  • Do you have a worthy ideal or goal?
  • Do you procrastinate because tasks seem too difficult and unrewarding?
  • Do you give yourself excuses for avoiding things?
  • Do you feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of everything you have to do?
  • Do you have difficulty modifying a habit such as smoking?
  • Are you afraid of failure?

There are thousands of reasons we may feel the need for coaching, so go inside and ask yourself; what stands in my way?

This Thinking Into Results coaching program will support you to:

  • Look at your habitual actions and change them into more productive ones.
  • Analyze your thinking so that you start to come up with more creative solutions.
  • Identify and avoid toxic landmines that sabotage your thinking
  • Move past your fears.
  • See the connection between your beliefs and your current behavior.
  • Close the gap between what you know and what you actually do.
  • Understand the cause of your non-productive behaviors and how to change them.
  • Accelerate your results by working smarter, not harder
  • Find a whole new level of clarity, confidence and purpose
  • Break through barriers around increasing income
  • And much more!

It may be hard for you to imagine that you can get all these results with this one program. But Thinking Into Results is time tested as it has been formulated by Bob Proctor & Sandra Gallagher, and the principles used in the program are backed by 50 years of research and development, with seminars conducted all over the world.

The beautiful aspect of Thinking Into Results is that is really addresses the cause. I love that about this program, as most programs out there only address the symptoms.

Here’s to your success!

I recently saw an inspirational video about the Secrets of the World Class -Turning Mediocrity into Greatness based on a book by Steve Siebold. It basically asks you, how do you see yourself? Do you see yourself as middle class or world class. He was not referring to your bank account but how you approach the challenges you face and how you live your life.

Here are the secrets he came up with:

The Middle Class is frustrated
The World Class is grateful
Gratefulness changes your vibration to one that will keep you open to receive the good you deserve.

The Middle Class competes
The World Class creates
Creativity is essential as you need to use your creative facilities to create the life you desire.

The Middle Class avoids risk
The World Class manages risk
Managing risk and being up for challenges puts you in a place of expectation for better things.

The Middle Class loves to be comfortable
The World Class is comfortable being uncomfortable
When you go after a big goal it will scare you and excite you at the same time and you will feel uncomfortable for a while. This is essential for growth.

The Middle Class focuses on having
The World Class focuses on being
When you focus on learning and growing into the being you need to be in order to be successful, you will bypass the fixation of immediate gratification.

The Middle Class has pipedreams
The World Class has vision
Vision is essential to know where you are headed and to make your goals a reality.

The Middle Class is problem oriented
The World Class is solution oriented
You see options and keep your focus on the possibilities. You are always solving problems.

The Middle Class sees itself as a victim
The World Class sees itself as responsible
You take full responsibility for all your choices.

The Middle Class thinks it knows enough
The World Class is eager to learn
You are always learning the specific knowledge you need to succeed and are open to learn from your mistakes.

The Middle Class chooses fear
The World Class chooses growth
You are up for the challenges and follow your passion. You surround yourself with like minded people who are focusing on increase.

So these are the qualities to cultivate as you are working towards peak performance. Learning more about these secrets and applying them will lead you to greatness. If you need to strengthen any of these qualities, then ask about the Thinking Into Results program.

Here’s to your success!

It is wonderful when we become aware of something, then we notice it everywhere. Being reminded of the vibration of gratitude is always wonderful. A reminder to be mindful and in the present moment, to reconnect with our inner being or soul, to be connected with a universe that celebrates life and that we are all connected, all one. In this, happiness is revealed.

I just discovered the TEDxSF video by Louie Schwartzberg on Gratitude. Please take a few minutes to watch this amazing video.

By happy coincidence I was reading the chapter on Gratitude from The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles. So gratitude is my topic this week as I am surrounded by it.

As this video suggests, we have so much to be grateful for; each day we are here, our precious life, so much.

It is easy to notice that people who live from a place of gratitude, experience more of life’s goodness. With the natural principle that action and reaction are always equal, what we put out, comes back to us. When we feel gratitude, the universe sends it back.

As Wallace  Wattles says, “It is necessary, then, to cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you; and to give thanks continuously. This will bring you into harmonious relations with the good in everything, and the good in everything will move toward you.”

As we all are working on a better life, this video is a great reminder to cultivate the attitude of gratitude daily.

If you would like to explore how to be a state of gratitude more often, join me in a Thinking Into Results journey.

I wish for you a day that is filled with gratitude!

We live simultaneously on three planes of existence; the spiritual, mental and physical. We are spiritual beings, gifted with an intellect, living in a physical body. How we use out intellect will dictate the feelings we experience. Our feelings describe the conscious awareness of the vibration we are in. Feelings are guide posts for our three planes of existence.

I was thinking about these three planes of existence in terms of my life recently.

Looking at my life, I see that I started to learn about the physical when I was younger. There are many reasons for that as we are conditioned in school to look at life through our senses. So it makes sense that I would start there as the majority of the population live their lives through their senses. I was very curious about health and our bodies. So over a period of 15 years I wrote and co-wrote 7 books about holistic health and our bodies.

I became interested in spirituality after experiencing “an awakening” in my early twenties. I took a Bachelor of Spiritual Science program and really explored all aspects of spirituality. Later on I really delved into Buddhism. My spiritual exploration is very important to me and that continues to this day.

When it came to the intellectual plane, I took lots of personal development programs over that last 40 years but never really understood the mind. That is until recently. A few years ago I went back to study with Bob Proctor again. I started back with his coaching program and then spent some time with him personally at his Matrixx program.

I then learned about his program Thinking Into Results that Sandy Gallagher created. I decided to become a facilitator with this program. That is when I had my big “Aha”.  All the learning I was doing through Bob’s programs was aimed at strengthening my intellect.

We are thinking beings. To quote Wallace Wattles, “Thought is the only power that can produce tangible riches from the formless substance. We live a thought world, and this world is a part of a thought universe.

I realized that this was my missing piece. I had only glanced over it in the past and had not used repetition to really implant it so that it was habitual. To do the things that I wanted to do, required me to think in a certain way.

To quote Wallace again, “There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought; it is the hardest work in the world. This is especially true when truth is contrary to appearances.

I am so much more in balance with my three planes of existence and feel able to create anything I want. I invite you to explore your balance in your life and join me in a Thinking Into Results journey.

Dare to Dream!

The Law of the Impression of Increase is a key to your success and is based on the concepts of prosperity, abundance and increase.  As Wattles states in “How to Get What You Want: “To make every act and thought constructive, everyone must convey the idea of increase.  Steadily hold in mind the thought of advancement for yourself; know that you are advancing toward what you want, and act and speak in this faith.  Then every word and act will convey the idea of advancement and increase to others, and they will be drawn to you.  Always remember that what all people are seeking for is increase.”

One of my favourite quotes is: “The very best thing you can do for the whole world is to make the most of yourself.”  Wallace D. Wattles

According to Wattles, “the Advancing Man gives increase to another’s life”. So if you want to make your life better, set an example to others. Show others how they can also become rich through your actions. Become a living inspiration to others, exuding prosperity and gratitude. People pick up on that automatically and will want to be around you. Therefore, you will get rich yourself.

“Leave every person you come in contact with, with the impression of increase.”  “The desire for increase is inherent in all nature; it is the fundamental impulse of the universe… Every living thing is under this necessity for continuous advancement; where increase of life ceases, dissolution and death set in at once.”  From “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace D. Wattles.

When you form the habit of leaving everyone with the impression of increase, sending good energy to everyone you meet – whether you know them or not, and regardless of what their behaviors may be towards you, you will be abundantly rewarded. Develop the habit of edifying others and enriching others’ lives; then you will develop a new paradigm. Become consciously competent with this habit.

Here are some ideas:

  • Start looking for what other people do well. Bring it to their attention. Let them know that you notice.
  • Smile at everyone.
  • Give sincere compliments and praise.
  • Congratulate people.
  • Help others succeed.
  • Give them an idea that inspires them.
  • Give gifts physically, verbally and mentally.
  • Offer opportunities for advancement and development.
  • Give another person something of greater value than what they have paid for it.
  • Enlarge others with a positive mental attitude.

These are just a few examples and I am sure you will think of more as you develop this habit. Remember increase is good. Increase = more life and more success.

I’m sure you can think of people in your life who have offered an impression of increase towards you. It sure felt good, didn’t it? Now when we develop this habit, it will increase our abundance in countless ways.

Here’s to your success!

Most people let outside circumstances, other people, conditions, and environment control their attitude. We don’t want the outside world to control us. We want the control. When we choose to control our attitude, we can respond to life rather than react to it. When our attitude shifts everything shifts. In this post, I’ll cover 10 ways to shift your attitude and discuss what attitude is.

William James said, “Human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” The only thing we have total control over is our attitude.

Ask any successful person what tops the list of priorities for a successful life and they will tell you having the proper attitude.

Zig Ziglar said, “It is your attitude, not your aptitude, that determines your altitude.”

So what is attitude?

Attitude is the composite of your thoughts (the activity of your conscious mind), your feelings (the activity of your sub-conscious mind), and your body, the material medium where your actions produce results. This is where behaviors show up.

W. Clement Stone said, “There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.

All thoughts, feelings and actions are a form of energy that we express. Our thoughts charged with emotion set up a vibration in the body that will cause us to act. The universe will respond with a vibration in harmony with the one put out by us. So if our attitude is positive we will attract a similar positive vibration and we will obtain a positive result. The same is true with the negative attitude.

So what are these 10 ways to shift your attitude?

  1. Believe you can change your attitude, break old habits, make the choice to change your vibration.
  2. Respond rather than react, change the way you look at a situation.
  3. Become aware of what enters your consciousness and choose the positive.
  4. Be aware of all the attitude components, the thoughts or beliefs, the feelings or the behavioral aspects and watch for any cognitive dissonance (holding  two conflicting ideas) especially in the subconscious and the conscious minds.
  5. Monitor your internal dialogue and change the words or phrases to positive ones.
  6. Work with your strengths and delegate responsibilities that frustrate your attitude.
  7. Ask yourself penetrating questions to break the negative state and get you to think differently.
  8. Hang out with positive and inspiring people and model them.
  9. Live in alignment with your values.
  10. Count your blessings – have an attitude of gratitude.

Keeping your attitude positive is the fastest way to live the life of your dreams.

Dare to Dream!

William James, one of the world’s most distinguished early psychologists, reached the conclusion that the average individual was using only a small portion of his or her real potential, perhaps as little as 10%. He wrote, “Most people live, whether physically, intellectually, or morally, in a very restricted circle of their potential being. They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness, and their soul’s resources in general, much like a person who, out of their whole bodily organism, gets into the habit of using and moving only their little finger.” Our awareness can go through 7 levels of awareness as we develop personally.

Consciousness is the quality or state of being aware of an external object or something within oneself. Here we are referring to inner consciousness.

  1. Animalistic consciousness – this is where we react to life. This where the fight or flight response is triggered. We are all born in to this but then we move to a mass awareness.
  2. Mass consciousness – we are trained to be like others. Look at the results here 1-3% of the population are making 97% of all the money. This where our paradigms that hold us back are expressed.
  3. Aspiration consciousness – this when we aspire to be more than we currently are. We have a desire to do something greater, make great things happen, be wealthy, etc.
  4. Individual consciousness – this is when we change and we want to express our uniqueness as a human being. This can be expressed through our goals.
  5. Discipline consciousness – inside we develop some discipline and we give ourselves a command and then follow our wants or desires to break free. We have to go past the wish, shut down the sensory factors and turn to the inner mental muscles to see the change in our results.
  6. Experience consciousness – seeing that taking a good idea (goal) and impressing it on the subconscious mind through writing and listening using repetition, we get emotionally involved and this changes our behavior. We keep acting on it despite the outside conditions or circumstances and get new results or experiences.
  7. Mastery consciousness – not letting the old paradigms control us anymore. We take control of self and only respond to what is going on around us and not react anymore. We have a great attitude and feel very productive.

As you read through these awareness levels, do you see or recognize ones that are more familiar than others? Are you working to stay out of mass consciousness? Ultimately when we can remain in mastery consciousness, we can live the life we dream of.

Dare to Dream!
